Student Account Hold Key: Common Holds

To learn how to check holds click here for tutorial

*Holds noted in red will keep you from registering for courses immediately.

*Holds noted in brown will keep you from registering for courses your second semester of  enrollment.

*Students having AP or CLEP scores prior to entering FGCU:  scores will not be notated on student high school transcripts.  Students with AP or CLEP credit must request official submission of these scores from the College Board- see College Board contacts within brown portion of the table below.  Only AP scores of 3-5 will count for college credit.  CLEP score minimum college requirements: see catalog

It is critical to begin efforts towards hold removal promptly to allow processing time for departments, schools and agencies to send required information to remove holds.  Most holds restrict students from progressing with registration.  Students should familiarize themselves to check holds via GULFLINE: (choose Student & Financial Aid option, then Student Records).  The following chart is a reference key outlining actions required to have holds removed.

AF:  Freshman Advising Hold

First Year Advising

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Summer & Fall 2009 freshman admits will have their AF hold deactivated the 2nd day of their orientation to permit registration for 2009.

AF hold reactivates after the Fall 2009 add/drop period 8/29/09, and automatically deactivates 10/29/09 to permit web registration for Spring 2010. * freshman honors AF hold deactivates 10/19/09

Note: Freshmen students are not required to meet with an advisor before registering for Spring 2010 classes.

AF hold activates after the Spring 2010 add/drop period 1/14/10 and students are advised by First Year Advising through 1/31/10.

Summer & Fall 2009 admits who are not on academic notice/warning will be transitioned to an upper division advisor  2/01/10.

Students on academic notice/warning as of 2/01/10 will be retained in First Year Advising until they earn 24 credits or are no longer on academic notice/warning.

The AF hold activates and deactivates according to the academic calendar and freshman registration dates.  This ensures freshman students connect with first year advisors for consultation on academic decisions/planning as students consider course withdraws, etc.

Students may seek guidance from first year advisors to assist with academic planning.

Note: Freshmen students are not required to meet with an advisor before registering for Spring 2010 classes.

FA:  Financial Aid Hold

The financial aid hold can be applied for several reasons:

Exit counseling – if a student ever had loans and is graduating, falls below half time, transfers, or withdraws then an exit counseling session will need to be completed at
www.mappingyourfuture.org

Owes Title IV funds – if a student withdraws before the 60% point of the semester and received financial aid then they may owe funds back to the school that needed to be returned to the federal government.  The student will need to provide payment for any funds due and the hold will be lifted at that time.

Delinquent payment or Default – if a student falls behind on repayment of their loans or goes into default then the student will be required to resolve the situation with their lender and provide a default clearance letter to the financial aid office.  In this case the student should contact their lender or the financial aid office.

As the student resolves each of the issues described the hold will automatically be removed.  If the student feels that the hold has not been removed in a timely manner please contact the financial aid office at 239-590-7920 or faso@fgcu.edu
