Florida Gulf Coast University has a commitment to assist all student-athletes who have a commitment to earn a degree and receive an education. FGCU will accomplish this commitment through providing academic counseling in conjunction with the University's advising system, tutorial assistance, mentoring, personal need counseling, and career counseling and programming that develops academic, social and athletic success. FGCU student-athletes are first and foremost students, and the University's commitment is dedicated to the development and maturation of a successful transition from high school to college. FGCU seeks to build relationships with the campus community in order to monitor academic progress in individual courses and assist student-athletes  to obtain their personal, academic, and athletic goals.

   Student-Athlete Services Guidelines

1.  Monitor the academic progress of student athletes by communicating with faculty and staff, and providing progress reports to the coaching staff and athletic administration.

2.  Provide academic counseling to student-athletes to assist in the selection of classes for each semester in conjunction with the University's academic advising system.

3.  Serve in a mentoring capacity to listen and provide sound advice on various academic and personal dilemmas that student-athletes encounter.  Strive to be an advocate to the student-athlete while still maintaining the level of respect needed to function in a professional  capacity.

4.  Counsel and make appropriate referrals for student-athletes towards choosing a major and career.

5.  Proactively working with student-athletes towards study skills, time management, tutoring and exam preparation with appropriate programming to insure academic success.
