Q. How do I register for classes? Go
back
A. New students register for classes at
Orientation. Students approaching their 2nd semester who have
completed less than 24 credits (including accelerated credit AP, IB,
CLEP, DE) will need to attend a registration workshop through First
Year Advising. Registration to attend a workshop to enroll for 2nd semester
will not be permitted until all holds, except the AF (Freshman Advising
hold) are removed: (See
Student Hold Key). Students should contact First Year Advising (239-590-7875
-or- 590-7865) in early October to register to attend advising workshops.
In subsequent semesters, after meeting with their college advisor (See
Advising Transition) , students can choose between registering online
through Gulfline and registering in person through the Office of the
Registrar. Connect to
Gulfline. To look up classes

Q. I have a transcript hold on my record and now I
cannot web register for my classes, why is this? Go back
A. Students may have final official
transcript (TR) holds placed on their student record by the Office of
Undergraduate Admissions when there are official documents that are
still in need of submission. For Summer & Fall 2008 freshmen
admits, active holds are set to display in a student's Gulfline record
September 15, 2009. Students are instructed in detail at
orientation to check their holds on 9/15/09 to determine if they have
any holds that need to be resolved. Students are shown at their
orientation advising session a
tutorial on how to check their holds and how to use the
student
hold key in efforts to proactively resolve any holds on their record
so as not to negatively impact their registration access for Spring 2010
classes 10-29-09. Students sign and complete important date fields
in the
advising contract through the
Office of First Year
Advising that emphasizes their need to check their holds 9/15/08,
students are also instructed to note this date on their advising
contract within their student date book (provided at orientation) along
with the advising contract collected by First Year Advising while
attending orientation. Further, students are asked to recite a
"hold check pledge" where their first year advisor asks them to recite,
"I agree to check my holds 9/15/09 to be aware of any active holds that
need to be resolved in my record to prevent registration access
difficulties later". Orientation leaders reference the importance
of checking and resolving holds 9/15/09 within the skit they provide at
freshmen orientation. Transcripts must be submitted officially to
the FGCU Office of Undergraduate Admissions (faxed documents or scanned
documents sent via email are not considered official).

We suggest leaving a voice mail with the professor as well as
sending them an email. In
these contacts be sure to communicate your full name and the 5 digit CRN (Course Reference Number) of the course in
which you wish to enroll. You
may even want to cut and paste the course information from the website and paste it
into the email.
To obtain any FGCU professor or staff contact information

click here and enter the contact’s first or last name:
Request that the faculty member email your advisor
permission for them to add the course to your schedule. (Emails must be
sent directly from the professor to the advisor- no exceptions)
Note: If a course does not give a professors name and instead labels the instructor as "staff" you will need to contact the secretary of the college in which the course is offered under (the majority of these "staff" labeled courses fall under the College of Arts & Sciences). Q. What are the rules for the 9 required
credit hours to be taken over summer semesters? Go back
A. All students graduating from FGCU are required to take
9 credit hours in the summer during the course of their academic career while pursuing
their undergraduate degree. These 9 credits can be taken one class at
a time in various summer semesters or can be taken together in summer

exempt from the summer credit hour requirement.
