GRADE FORGIVENESS POLICY

Click here for grade forgiveness form          Official catalog grade forgiveness policy

Florida Gulf Coast University's grade forgiveness policy permits an undergraduate, degree or non-degree seeking student to repeat a course in which:

1. An original grade of C- or lower has been recorded,

2. The repeated grade is D or higher,

3. Only the repeated course grade will be used in the computation of GPA,

4. The repeated course grade will not be applied in the calculation of GPA for Honors for
Graduation,

5. The original course was taken at FGCU and the original grade was received Fall 2000 or
subsequent terms, and

6. The repeat course was taken at FGCU subsequent to Fall 2000.

CONDITIONS OF THE POLICY ARE:

1. A total of two courses may be repeated once. The same course may not be repeated twice.

2. Only 1000-4000 courses are eligible for grade forgiveness.

3. With prior approval of the college dean a course substitution may be sought under the
following conditions:
a. the substitute course is a change in prefix, number, hours or title, but not a substantive
change in content form the original course.

b. the substitute course replaces a course no longer offered by the institution.

4. The repeat course must be taken under the same grading system. S/U graded courses
are not permitted to repeat as A-F.

5. All grades will remain on the academic transcript. The original course will be annotated with "E" to indicate that the course has been subsequently repeated and excluded from the GPA calculation. The repeated course will be annotated with "I" to indicate a repeat course and is included in the GPA calculation.

6. Individual colleges may have further restrictions; therefore, the student should consult with his/her academic advisor.

7. Students who have received a bachelor's degree from FGCU cannot apply grade forgiveness to any course taken prior to the awarding of the degree.

8. Students must apply for grade forgiveness no later than the last day of final exams. Application must be made in the term the repeat course is taken. Refer to the Academic Calendar for the deadline date.
